NANCY GREER NAMED WOMEN IN BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR               Arnold Entrepreneur To Be Honored at MD Small Business Week Awards

(Baltimore, MD) Nancy Greer, owner of Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi in Arnold, MD will be honored as the Women in Business Champion of the Year at the 28th Annual Maryland Small Business Week Awards luncheon, Friday, April 13 at Martin’s West in Windsor Mill, MD.  Greer will join 10 other outstanding small business owners and supporting champions who will be recognized by hundreds of entrepreneurs, lenders and government officials, including Governor Martin O’Malley, Senator Ben Cardin and Congressman Steny Hoyer, among others.  The awards event is the largest SBA celebration in the nation.

Each year the President of the United States declares National Small Business Week to recognize the powerful impact of the Small Business Community and to celebrate their contributions to the nation’s economy.  The Small Business Administration (S.B.A.) holds an annual awards competition to recognize outstanding small business owners and advocates.  Nominees compete within their own Districts; winners advance to the Regional competition and then finally compete at the National level.

“It is such a privilege to be honored and I am humbled by the recognition, ”says Greer who explains that Kung Fu literally means skill achieved through hard work over time, a principle she applies to all aspects of her life.  “I appreciate the hard work it takes to be successful.”  However, she admits that women in business can sometimes face unique challenges.  “I enjoy championing them in any way that I can.  Women in business are vital to the community and whatever help I can give benefits us all.”

Nominated by the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce, Greer states that she is thankful for the vibrant chamber’s support which she credits for giving her the opportunity to network with a broad array of businesses and helping to  “grow her knowledge base.”

“By helping to improve the environment for the creation and expansion of businesses owned and operated by women and advocating on behalf of the women-owned business community – as a whole, not merely for her own personal advancement, Ms. Greer has shown time and again that she is indeed a champion of women in business and more than deserving of this honor,” claims event co-chair, Martin Resnick, Chairman of Martins Caterers and past recipient of the Entrepreneurial Success of The Year award.

We would like to extend a big thanks to Brian Johnson of Annapolis for all his support and commitment during the Extreme Makeover Home Edition project we completed this month.

Brian owns not one, but two Annapolis-based businesses. Fitness By Brian is a very successful  in-home personal training business. Brian came out personally to the build site to help motivate and properly stretch the morning build crews. His expertise, experience, and personality brought a whole new dimension to the build.

Brian also owns Thermal Dynamiks, which is an insulation, spray foam, and cellulose company. Brian's donated services and products to the Johnson-Goslee home were invaluable. Way to come through for us, Brian!

If ever you were thinking of getting into shape - and truly changing your life - please contact Brian Johnson. We have seen first hand the results of his commitment!

The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was an amazing project for a terrific family! We would love to do another one (once we catch up on sleep from this one!)

Please check our website and blog out frequently for these exclusive videos, photographs, and stories from the project.

Branches would like to send a warm shout out of thanks to Nuala O’Leary, of Long & Foster Realty!

We had never met Nuala before she reached out to us to offer her time and support for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Annapolis Kick Off Party Silent Auction & Fundraiser. And, what an essential volunteer she was!

Nuala stepped up in a big way to help collect and coordinate auction items. And, she took it upon herself to contact folks who were winning bidders. When the event was over and our team had relocated to the build site, she even took time out of her day to meet people with their items at the Fusion offices.

Nuala embodies the spirit of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and the Branches PSP mission for community involvement. And for this, we send her a huge THANK YOU!

PS : If you're looking for a realtor, call Nuala O’Leary!

When we decided to take on the Extreme Makeiver: Home Edition project with the Fusion Companies, we knew that we would be juggling  the challenge of running our regular business with the enormous challenges that the project would undoubtedly bring. We also knew that we would have to call in many favors, shake many people down for funds and donations, and shamelessly recruit help.

What we didn't know was that one individual would answer our call for help with such fervor and dedication that we literally could not have been successful without her.

Nancy Greer, of Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu and Tai Chi, not only stepped up to provide us with (very) last minute auction items for our (very) last minute Kick Off Party and Fundraiser at the Loews Hotel Annapolis on 9/22/2011 . . . she recruited other small business owners, such as Janet from As Kindred Spirits, to provide us with auction items too and in turn recruit even more businesses to donate items to our fundraising efforts. Because of Nancy's and Janet's efforts, auction items were still being delivered to us an hour after the Kick Off event had begun.

But, Nancy's generosity and commitment didn't stop there. While other sponsors were asking for free tickets to the event, Nancy quietly purchased to tickets on her own.

She then gathered the Jing Ying Institute team to perform a Lion Dance at the Kick Off party - to bless the project, bring us good luck and provide the attendees our only form of entertainment that evening. Charge? No charge. The performance was a gift of well wishes given from the heart.

Only two days later, and an hour and a half away, we held a Pep Rally at Salisbury University. Nancy drove all the way up to the pep rally  to support us.

She brought another giveaway item with her. And, even though she had free tickets to the VIP tent on the build site, Nancy went and bought two tickets anyway. She said, "anything I can do to help".

Nancy has offered to stay to help after all the hoopla over the Big Reveal is over. I mean - how selfless, kind, and generous, right?!

Thank you Intrigue Design & Decor for your support and ability to create magic even at the last minute!

For those of you who know, our Annapolis Kick Off Party at the Loews Hotel Annapolis was put together in only a couple days. It is a HUGE testament to the community spirit of Annapolis that we were able to pull off such a hugely successful event in such a short period of time.

Intrigue Design & Decor was one of the businesses that answered the call for help in just a few short hours! They dropped off stunning floral arrangements and auction item gifts without ever asking for recognition or press in any way!

They were so generous and sucha pleasure to work with!

Each table in our VIP tent was adorned with gorgeous fall-colored gourds and flowers. What a great job!!!

If you have pictures from the VIP tent, please email them to us. We would love to include images here, to!

Thank you Sue Chiasson of Cross Creek Candies!!
Please give Cross Creek Candies & Sue Chiasson a SHOUT OUT on their facebook page

Not only did Sue make beautiful, saws and hammers and other construction-shaped handmade chocolates to raise money for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project we participated in, she made a cash donation to the Family Build fund, too!

When we asked Sue about her experience, she said, ""My mission statement for my company is to "pay it forward". When I was asked to make candy for this event, I jumped at the chance to help out in anyway that I could."

She went on to explain why she was compelled to contribute to this project, saying,"As soon as I pulled up to the build site, you could feel the "magic". It seemed that every person was there with the purpose of "paying it forward" - whether it was with a hammer, a saw or just their time."

Sue has driven out to the site from Annapolis more than once. She's quietly supported all of us in our efforts, constantly asking - what else can I do for you?

SHOUT OUT : We cannot thank Nancy Greer from Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi enough for her personal support, many donations, the Lion Dance to kick this whole thing off, her son's services to assist the builder, and her recruiting of others to help out, too!!!

If ever there were a person who *truly* understands the meaning of "Community", it is dear Nancy!! ♥ ♥
